And so it begins, day one of the UK government enforced lock down. And I have to be honest, I’m feeling somewhat more positive. That's not a typo, its true. I feel like this is a huge step forward in helping.
I have questioned myself today. I have been following government guidelines since last Thursday and only been out briefly for walks, practising the distancing and not met with anyone. And in this time, I have been to the workshop once for 40 minutes. But I had thought that perhaps I would go in and complete orders this week as can practice self-isolating there. However this morning I’ve decided I need to put some realistic delivery times in place for all new orders and commissions. After all I’m an ECO aware jeweller, and I need to consider what environmental impact I may have by visiting the workshop or more importantly heading to the post office and interacting with people when dispatching. My online shops remains open but for anything other than vouchers delivery is now 3-5 weeks and commission could be up to 8 weeks.
I’m hoping I can reduce these times but I feel it’s best to add this extra time to cover for all eventualities and to ensure I’m observing the UK governments lock-down rules which means avoiding leaving the flat to visit the workshop/post office where ever possible. Due to the nature and designs of my jewellery plus not owning personal mode of transport I’m unable to set up a fully functional workshop at home.
I know how scary this time is for everyone, I know how my fellow freelancers and small businesses are feeling. I promise you I have experienced all the emotions you can imagine. There have been tears, pure and deep fear, worry, anxiety and the positivity. I have to remain positive, we all have to remain positive and I have to ensure I do everything that I feel is right for my business, myself and you my wonderful customers as well as everyone else within my supply chain. I cannot wait to get back to my bench and get working on all your orders. I promise I will be putting in extra hours after all of this to ensure you receive your new eco aware jewellery as quickly as possible, but as safely as possible.
In the mean time I’m working on areas of my business that I don’t often get to do to this degree. And I’m going to try a few new things and look into what else I can do to ensure that when we come out the other side I can continue to grow my eco and sustainable business. I again want to say a huge thank you for your continued support, you guys truly are incredible. I’m one lucky lady and small business owner. Love you guys 💛
